REAL GOAL: Get My Greenhouse Ready for Fall

It’s time for another post and another REAL goal. If you haven’t read any of the REAL series, click on over HERE to see what you’ve missed. Today, I want to share about my next REAL goal, which is to get my greenhouse ready for fall.

To start planning our my steps, I’m going to use the REAL process. (R.E.A.L. stands for Reflect, Engage, Act, and Learn—a process that can help you set meaningful goals and live a purpose-driven life). So, first up…

R – Rooted in Truth

Start by grounding your goal in your current reality. What’s true right now?

  • I have a shower to purchase and prepare fall flowers for this Saturday.
  • It is time to switch silk flowers and arrangements from summer to fall.
  • It’s time to add fall flowers and plants in beds. (Kale, Mums, pansies)
  • You’re short on time or energy some days.
  • You want a smooth transition into fall planting without last-minute stress.

Rooted version of your goal: I want to create a manageable plan to clear, prep, and plant my greenhouse for fall so I can enjoy the harvest season without burning out.”

E – Energizing

Ask yourself: Does this goal give me energy, or drain me? What feels exciting or satisfying about this?

  • Seeing the greenhouse clean and functional again.
  • Choosing fall crops to try—maybe something new this year.
  • Creating a peaceful, productive space to work in.

What might drain me?

  • Trying to do it all in one weekend.
  • Perfectionism or comparison.
  • Not having a clear step-by-step plan.
  • Putting my own goals on the back burner, as I help others achieve their goals.

Energizing adjustment:

Break it into mini projects:

  • Clear and organize each workspace.
  • List and finish projects, day by day, completing one unfinished project a day.
  • Remove and pack away or donate any items that are not related to the fall season.
  • Propagate Peggy Martin roses, spider plants, sun coleus.
  • Clear flowerbeds and get ready for fall planting.
  • Clean front porch and decorate for fall.

Small, doable steps = sustainable energy.

A – Aligned

Make sure your goal matches your values, season of life, and purpose.

Ask:

  • Why do I want to get greenhouse ready for creativity?
  • What plants will I attempt to grow or propogate?
  • How does this connect to my rhythms, values, or even my faith?
  • Am I doing this to nourish, simplify, create beauty, or connect with creation?

Aligned statement: “This goal aligns with my desire to live more seasonally, grow my own food, and create a space that brings peace and productivity. It’s not about performance—it’s about being faithful and living intentionally in joy with what I’ve been given.”

L – Life-Giving

September is Self-Care month. Preparing my greenhouse to enjoy during the fall and winter is life-giving.

How will this goal add value to your life? Think about:

  • The joy of harvesting fall veggies or herbs
  • The peace of working in an organized, welcoming space
  • The satisfaction of finishing before the first frost
  • The deeper connection to nature, your body, or your Creator

Life-Giving angle: Instead of dreading the work, view each task as care—care for your space, your body, and your future harvest.

REAL goals

FINAL REAL GOAL EXAMPLE: “Over the next two weeks, I will gently prepare my greenhouse for fall by decluttering, preparing the flower beds for fall planting, and propogating or planting 3–5 fall crops—at a pace that supports my energy and honors the season I’m in.”

It’s:

  • Rooted in my real situation
  • Energizing because it’s broken down and paced
  • Aligned with my values of stewardship and conservation.
  • Life-giving because it creates beauty, nourishment, and peace.

REAL Goal: Prepare My Greenhouse Sanctuary for Fall

R – Rooted in Truth

This isn’t just about cleaning and prepping—it’s about creating a space that supports your creativity, peace, and purpose. What’s real right now?

  • The space is a little cluttered or chaotic from summer.
  • Some plants are fading, tools may be scattered.
  • I’m feeling a pull to slow down and make space for fall rhythms—more arranging, art, or quiet reflection.
  • Time and energy may vary from day to day.

Rooted version of your goal: “I want to prepare my greenhouse as a peaceful, functional creative space for fall—for flower arranging, foraging, and art—without rushing or overcomplicating the process.”

E – Energizing

Ask: What makes this feel exciting, joyful, or soul-filling? What inspires you:

  • Creating a seasonal floral bar or arranging station
  • Having cozy corners for sketching or sipping coffee.
  • Organizing foraged finds into baskets or jars.
  • Seeing the first fall blooms and textures come to life in arrangements.
  • Drying and pressing fall blooms to preserve their beauty.

What might steal your energy:

  • Feeling like it all has to be done perfectly or at once
  • Getting stuck in the “shoulds” instead of the joy

Energizing adjustment: Instead of a big cleanup, think in layers:

  • Day 1: Clear out summer clutter
  • Day 2: Re-style your workspace or flower bar with fall textures
  • Day 3: Add cozy touches (a chair, candle, throw)
  • Day 4: Bring in your first fall forage finds and create something

Do one thing at a time—and make it feel like art, not chore.

A – Aligned

This is more than a task—it’s a way of living. What does this space represent for you?

  • Creativity
  • Rest
  • Connection with God and nature
  • Seasonal living
  • Slowing down and savoring

Aligned statement: “My greenhouse is a reflection of the life I want to live—one that’s connected, creative, and in rhythm with the seasons. Preparing it for fall is part of nurturing that lifestyle.”

L – Life-Giving

How will this goal fill you up? Imagine:

  • A clean, cozy space where you feel free to create
  • Fall florals and textures ready for arranging
  • A table set up for watercolor or journaling
  • Peace instead of pressure every time you walk in

Life-Giving vision: Every time I step into my greenhouse, I want to feel grounded, inspired, and at home. I want to create there, not just work there.
