Again with the Overwhelm
If the Christmas season used to light you up, but it’s been feeling overwhelming, it’s easy to wonder where the joy went. Maybe even decorating your home or preparing your business for the holidays feels like too much. If that’s you, you’re not alone.
Start by Clearing the Clutter
A cluttered space makes it harder to feel inspired. But sometimes the clutter isn’t junk—it’s beautiful décor you’ve collected over the years and find hard to part with. That’s where a mindset shift helps: If you’re not going to use it this year, let it go.
Donate it, sell it, or give it away…but make sure it leaves your space. As you go room by room, decide what you truly want to decorate with this season. Arrange those pieces, then move everything else to a central spot to review later.
Keep the Momentum Going
Once your home begins to feel peaceful and festive again, the rest becomes much easier. Aim to maintain the progress with small daily tasks. Spend one hour at the end of the day sorting what you removed earlier. Group items by themes, like Christmas trees, “Reason for the Season,” gingerbread, or winter whimsy.
Then, choose one theme per day to prep for your booth or shop.
- Pull items you already own.
- Clean, price, and get them ready to display.
- If you create products, choose five simple things to make that complement that theme.
- Finish one theme before moving to the next to avoid overwhelm.
Protect Your Time and Energy
Holiday schedules fill quickly. It’s important to set boundaries so you can enjoy the season without stretching yourself thin. Beautiful items won’t sell if they stay in bins—so create space in your schedule to display or list them, whether in-store or online.
Try limiting yourself to no more than three meaningful tasks per day. You’ll feel more accomplished and less scattered.
Ask for Help—Including God’s
You were never meant to carry it all alone. Ask God for wisdom, strength, and clarity. When you invite Him into the process, the impossible feels far less intimidating.
Drop the Competition Mindset
Focus on your passion, your brand, and your best work. Comparison steals joy—and joy is exactly what you’re trying to reclaim.
Don’t Overcommit
Say yes only to the things that matter most—faith, family, and making memories. Let the less important things fall away. And when someone offers help, let them. Giving others a chance to bless you is a gift to them, too.
Be Mindful With New Purchases
Before you buy items to resell or refinish, count the real cost.
Not just the price—but the time, energy, and mental bandwidth it will take to get it ready to sell. If it’s going to drain you, it’s okay to leave it behind—even if it’s a great deal.
Guard your spending to protect both your budget and your peace.
